Principal supervisor:
Professor Cecilia Chun Ka Wai
(Director, Centre for Learning Enhancement And Research)

Co-principal supervisor:
Professor Eunice Tang Lai Yiu
(Associate Professor, Curriculum and Instruction)

Summary

To materialize the concept of ‘Internationalization at Home’ (IaH) in the context of CUHK, this project aims to guide and facilitate the development of curriculum based on the ‘Conceptual Framework on Internationalization of Curriculum’ (IC) among the CUHK teachers.

Some good practices of IoC have already been implemented by teachers from the eight Faculties in CUHK. These internationalized curricula will be analyzed to provide insights for review and reflection to help other courses to develop an internationalized curriculum. To further understand the internationalization process, each teacher from the eight Faculties who has implemented IoC will be invited to have a semi-structured interview to collect their experience on including internationalized components in their course design and materials.

One teacher each from eight Faculties who is interested in making use of one of their courses as a medium to enhance the global outlook and international perspectives of their students will be invited to collaborate with CLEAR. With support from these teachers, CLEAR will develop discipline-specific courses, teaching materials and co-curricular activities which embed multicultural elements in order to promote among our students a global mindset and enhance their intercultural understanding. These courses and co-curricular activities will be taught and then evaluated to identify learning outcomes and other implementation issues. Findings of the study will provide evidence on good practices in curriculum design and pedagogy, which will be disseminated via workshops and other professional development activities organized by CLEAR.

CLEAR Workshop co-hosted by Experts in the field

On 17 May 2019, Centre for Learning Enhancement And Research (CLEAR) organized a workshop co-conducted by Professor Elspeth Jones of Leeds Beckett University, Leeds (LEEDS MET) and Dr. Wendy Green of University of Tasmania.

The workshop, Internationalization of the Curriculum: principles and practice, aimed to deliver practical suggestions on how to embed international elements in the curriculum. Internationalization has been identified as one of the development themes of CUHK and the concept of ‘Internationalization at Home’ (IaH) is adopted to enhance students’ learning within CUHK and help students gain a global and international experience by embedding multicultural elements in the curriculum. The workshop addressed issues concerning the why, what, and how to internationalize the curriculum. The workshop provided practical support to teachers who are keen to enhance teaching and learning by reviewing their curriculum in relation to Internationalization of curriculum.
